Kumera Kids harvesting for high returns

  • Monday, April 08, 2024

An enthusiastic group of students from Ahutoetoe School, along with adult volunteers, put in the hard yards to get the first batch of kumera and potato bagged and ready for sale.

From Cure Kids and Christmas gifts, to Kumara Kids and fundraising for our local school, Milldale is a hive of activity when it comes to giving back for a good cause. And this week has been no exception, with students from Ahutoetoe School getting stuck in to help raise funds that will allow their school to reach new heights.

One of the benefits of the extended planning process as part of developing the Milldale community is that land set aside for future development can be put to good use before it comes time to prepare the land for sale. So in went some kumera, potato and turnip that has now become a source of income for Ahutoetoe School. Donating the produce and harvesting in time for the School's official opening, Milldale hosted the first team this week for a day of bagging. The root veggies are then packed into smaller bags and sold through the school community, raising valuable funds for the many projects yet to be completed at the school.

To help raise funds, you can purchase bags of fresh handpicked produce at the bargain price of $5 each from the school reception, or contact Ahutoetoe School here.
